I live in Malaysia, and only a handful of people here register for the SAT exams. So forgive me for my lack of knowledge about the exams. Can someone explain what the SAT1 test is all about? Are there any requirements to sit for it? At what age can I sit for this exam?

You can take the exam at any age you want, but most people in the United States who take the test are about 17 years old, in their last or second to last year before they attend university.
The test has three sections: critical reading, mathematics, and writing. Critical reading is all about vocabulary and reading comprehension: there are questions where you have to complete sentences using choices of vocabulary words.
The math section is mostly algebra and geometry but it also has some statistics, probability, and about 7% miscellaneous. The math is relative easy conceptually, and is usually learned in 7th-10th grade but one must understand how to APPLY these concepts.
The writing section is relatively new, there are questions about standard English grammar in the form of improving paragraphs, identifying errors in sentences, and editing sentences. There is also a 25 minute essay at the beginning of the test where you will have to develop a point of view about a claim that is given.
The entire test is multiple choice except for the essay and a few math “student-produced responses” where you have to fill in the answer and you are not given any choices. It is scored from 200-800 for each of the three sections for a maximum possible score of 2400. The very top American universities usually like to see about 2000-2200 or better, but most universities are not so demanding. Anyways I think this should tell you all the basics about the test; good luck on the exam and with everything else!
