Does it have a big influence? Does it play a part only when applying for certain degrees/schools?

It looks great because colleges like not only that you are involved in extracurricular activities and community service but also that you can commit long-term to certain programs (since you have to be a boy scout for YEARS). I wish I didn’t quit boy scouts!

It helps and certainly doesn’t hurt, but it’s not anything magical that overcomes bad grades or bad SATs or bad essays. It’s just another thing they look at and say, “Oh, he was an Eagle scout. I’m sure he was dedicated and worked hard for it.” Not much different than if you were a varsity athlete or captain of the academic team or something like that. It’s an extracurricular activity that shows involvement and dedication. Beyond that, it’s nothing more.

It can have its benefits, mostly from the community service time and your Eagle Scout project. Good luck!

I know it’s a good asset…but get a lot more things like that…get a LOT of community hours and it will help you because the eagle scout alone isn’t a big influence, sorry.

what if you 787 and an almost identical student record are being considered for a last slot. The Eagle Scout would win. It looks really good on an application.
