What Are Your College Admission Possibilities If You Have An Abysmal Gpa – But Some Of The Best Sat Scores?

If someone has a really bad GPA, like 2.0 or less or something, but their SAT scores are in the top 10% in the nation, and maybe they write a killer essay – and if they have maybe one extracurricular that they excel at, maybe they don’t have one, do colleges take the SAT score into account, or is the GPA an automatic disqualifier?
A low GPA will hurt big – especially in larger universities.
If you do not get into the school of your choice, consider a year of community college – get serious and get good grades then apply as a transfer student.
College admissions are not as formulaic as people tend to believe, so it’s hard to say. A lot depends on the personal essay and if there is one the interview. But I can say fairly certainly that most colleges do NOT put that much weight on SAT scores. There are some prestigious universities and colleges out there that don’t even require SATs anymore.
most colleges take in these major factors:
class rank
standardized tests (SAT, ACT)
GPA
Grade trends
but again there are side factors such as letters, extra curr., your essay
my suggestion to the person is to go to the college website he/she wants to go to , and go to admissions, and look at the criteria
pretty poor, an SAT score in the 90th percentile is by no means one of the best scores. A GPA less than 2.0 probably means a community college, but you are obviously pretty bright, so I think go there for 2 years, kill it, then go to a good college.
good luck!
Depends.
