when you take the SATs for the first time, are you only taking the Reasoning Test? Do you have to request subject tests?

The SAT Reasoning Test is the general. The SAT Subject Tests are tests in individual subjects.

SAT is basically just testing your overall knowledge and skill…the categories are critical reading (includes vocab, reading passages with questyions), writing (grammer, essay) and math (self-explantory). that it. and its basic stuff…like the math you dont need a calculator for anything and it doesnt go past like algebra II. and everything in the SAT is just general info.
SAT II on the other hand is more specific to ONE subject area. Like theres math (which is more in depth than the SAT math…pre calc stuff are involved), US history, world history, spanish, bio, chem, etc. theres a whole bunch of subjects and the entire test is about them.
SAT is required for most schools…so defiantly take that.
SAT II is only required for some. you have to check with the school you plan on attending, but most top schools need at least 2 SAT II or sometimes 3 if youre applying to a ivy league…but i recommend to take them cause theyre not that hard.
when you take the SAT the first time…youre probably taking the reasoning test…you have to request subjece tests. when you sign up, theres a pull down where it askes you which one you wanna take
