No. Their system of examination consists of the GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education; 1st 2 years of secondary schooling) and A-levels (Advanced levels; last 2 years of secondary schooling). The International Baccalaureate program, which is available in the United States, is similar to this, and could prove to be helpful in UK University Admissions.

No. But you will need evidence of exam passes at age 16 and 18. And lots and lots of money!

No SAT’s are just annoying inventions all you need is proof of GSCE’s or equivalent and a levels or equivalent .

John M you’re thinking of the DAT’s as far as I can tell although I’m speaking from an Irish person’s point of view. SAT aren’t used in either England or Ireland for college entry. The SAT’s are just too broad. You can do them in Ireland though but they’re of no use to you when trying to get into college. I did them when I was twelve and again when I was thirteen. You can’t do them after age sixteen in Ireland.

The SAT is a US educational reference–what you should do is go to the websites of uni’s you would like to attend, and see what Irish qualfications are required. They will vary depending on where you go, so they will be your best guide.

nitehammr7 was right. Be careful you don’t mix the American SAT test/s with British SATs, which are a pointless and stupid set of tests in English, Maths and science designed to test the school itself not the pupil. You get them at the end of key stages 1(ages 5-7years old), 2 (7-11years old) and 3(11-14 years old ) and they are not even looked at by universities/ employers later in life.

    yes it is necessary
