*The SAT is out of 2400 points.
*A good score is whatever you think it is. Check with individual colleges to see what they require for admission.
*There are no A-B-C grades on the SAT.
*The SAT is not a pass-fail test.
*Elite colleges usually require a 2100+ for admission.
The SAT Reasoning Test is split into 3 sections:
Critical Reading
Math
Writing
You can earn up to 800 points on each of the sections for a total of 2400. SOme schools do not use the Writing test scores.
The average for all students who test is around 510 – 520 for each section, so if you score above that, you are above the 50th percentile.
A “good mark” would depend on what you are using the test for. If it is for college admission, you should ask the colleges you are applying to, what the average scores are of those who are admitted, especially when compared to the GPAs. If you have a very high GPA your scores may not matter as much. If your GPA is lower, a high score on the test may help you get in.
the new sat is out of 2400 and its not a pass or fail type of test. its an apptitude test, meaning that schools can judge how well you would be able to handle their coursework and would be able to habdle level of academic capability that they exect from their students.
a good score is whatever you want it to be. if you need a 1700 to get into your dream school, then 1700 is great. more prestigious schools take higher scores, but it doesn’t make or break wether or not your going to get accepted.
the test is divided into ponts so that math, writting, readnig comprehension and something else (i took it a few years ago..i cant really remember..) are all worth 800 points, and then whatever you get in these sections is added up to give you your total.
