For A College Admission Essay “no Longer Than 600 Words”, Is It Alright To Be In The 600-650 Range? 650-700?

No longer than 600 words. My professor does not find pleasure in reading work over the word limit. Seldom does he find a paper worth the extra time to read, and you better believe he will penalize you for inadequate following of directions! Best of luck, make sure to use proper grammar and vocabulary XD

If they say no longer than 600 words, they mean it. They get so many applications a day and do not want to be stuck reading them all rambling on forever, so if it is over, they are not going to waste their time. Also, a lot of schools see it as not being able to follow simple directions and I have known a couple of places to eliminate the application before even reading it. Stay safe, stick to 600.

Colleges have so many essays to read that you don’t want to make it too long or they might not even read yours at all. I usually follow the 10% rule, so this means your maximum word count should be no more than 660. This way it is not too obvious that your essay is longer than it should be. Still, try to cut out as much unneeded information as possible!

If your essay is longer then 600 words and it says “no longer than 600 words,” they will not read it and your chances of getting into that college goes to slim or none. Simple as that.

Nope, do you realize how many of those the admissions board has to read? Definitely don’t go over! You have “word count” for that.

The admissions board probably won’t care if you’re a little bit over 600, but if you start getting up towards 620, you should do some editing. 650 – 700 would definitely be too long.

No. Always follow the instructions and do as asked.
